For Mikal Norvell, a job shadow program in high school became the start of a fulfilling career that has spanned two decades mixing travel and adventure and being able to bring that to others. Mikal has been in the travel industry since that day when he raised his hand in his business class and shouted “I want to travel” as a career choice and has worked for some of the biggest names in travel focusing mainly on corporate, VIP and leisure travel. In addition, he has developed a great understanding and expertise in gay and lesbian travel, not only from personal exploration of what is available to him as a gay traveler but also throughout his career as he researched and identified options for the LGBT community more broadly.
In 1994, Mikal joined Walt Disney World Entertainment and thereafter, began his full time work with Winter Park Travel in Florida, a group specializing in leisure and corporate travel with a specialty niche in gay and lesbian travel.
In 1997, Mikal joined the travel technology giant, Worldspan and served as an onsite trainer and classroom instructor helping travel agencies and corporate travel departments develop and train on their new or upgraded systems. Following a stint in the dot.com industry focusing mainly on weddings and honeymoons for an online wedding planning advice site, Mikal returned to the travel industry in 2001 and worked again on enriching his skills in corporate and leisure travel with Travel Merchants LTD in Chicago until he moved to VIP and Luxury Travel with American Express Centurion Travel Service. He moved to Nashville in 2009 and continued his work with American Express Platinum and Centurion Travel Services managing travel once again for VIP, luxury and corporate clients.
In 2012, Mikal joined Entertainment Travel, a leader in travel services for the entertainment industry. Entertainment Travel boasts three additional divisions outside of entertainment travel including Honeymoons Galore, focusing on destination weddings and honeymoon travel; Destinations Galore, focusing on leisure travel; and its newest division, which Mikal will head up, Equality Travel, focusing on the specific travel needs and interests of the LGBT community.
Mikal attended Vincennes, Lancaster and Purdue universities. In his spare time, Mikal supports causes important to him personally including Race for a Cure for AIDS Research.
